It's hard to blog,

with 2 jobs and lousy internet,

plus spending quality time doing quality things.

And so much things to do too.

(I don't even have to time to patronize my fav blogs *sobsob* sorry guys...you know who you are...)

I'm currently working at XXX Hospital,

as a Research Assistant,

and working at Subway too.

Tiring but oh well...

My life is settling down a little but I'm thinking if I should close down this blog at all.

It's been ages since i last blogged.

I've been so occupied with my stuffs onhand.

Working, job hunt, getting to know Sydney, spending quality time with Zee etc...

There...my life now in a nutshell.

I'm currently working casual at Subway while searching for a full-time job,

in hope to meet the criteria(s) for my PR application in time to come.

And it's only a 10mins walk away from where i'm staying!

How handy is that!

hohoho

Much lesser pay compared to brizzy but i save on transport and travelling time.

Plus they are training me to be a team leader.

More responsibilities,

not much more pay,

but it'll look good on my CV.

So i went for it.

Hence, I was so busy that i drifted away from every other things.

Well...mainly updating my blog and visiting blogs

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!

Valentine's day to me is...erm...a love day, so to speak.

A day where you see people having flowers/bears/heart shaped balloons etc, in their hands.

A day where you see lovely dovey couples everywhere.

A day where love is in the air.

Even the birds are in the mood for love...

But i think Valentine's Day is way too commercialised and I always have to remind myself not to fall prey to commercialism.

So i never once celebrated V'day at an expensive restaurant nor buy expensive gifts for my partner.

A home cooked meal with your love one is just as romantic.

Then cuddling together to watch a dvd sounds like a perfect evening to me.

But everyday is Valentine's Day when you and your partner are happy together.

No matter what,

enjoy yourselves today people!

Mini reunion dinner

Sorry for the late post :p

ok...here's the update on how i spent CNY eve.

I worked in the afternoon then went out for dinner with Jason and Clarence.

We had a hard time deciding on what to eat but in the end,

we settled for Indian food.

So we went to a small Indian restaurant - Sitar, along Westend.

The place was small but cozy...

Here comes the foodddd!!!!

We were all starving!!!

I ordered mutton briyani...it was yum!!

Totally different from Sg's version of briyani but it's niceee.

Clarence, who can't take spicy,

ordered Butter Chicken which was really good too!!

Jason ordered something called Chicken Tikka Masala.

It was alright.

We were so full from all the curry.

Me being a glutton, wanted to grab some gelato after dinner.

But decided against it and went for tea instead to wash all the food down.

Sorry...the photos are a tad too dark.

It was very very crowded and i don't want to draw any attention with my flash.

hee~

There...our mini 'reunion' dinner.

It's not much but hey,

it's better than nothing :p

omg...it's the time of the year again.

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR (eve) EVERYONE!!!!!

I missed out on celebrating Chinese New Year with my family last year and I'm not back to celebrate it this year too.

*pout*

I miss my family already!!!

It's not the Ang Baos (red packets) that i miss, nor is it the goodies.

It's the family reunion that i miss most.

Ok...fine, i do miss the goodies a little :p

But we had a big family reunion during my last trip back to Sg,

all thanks to my bro's wedding.

So i can't complain.

And it's supposed to be reunion dinner tonight.

I'll have to eat it myself.

Maybe with Jason.

And even some friends.

ohoh...

i suddenly remember some traditions about Chinese New Year eve.

Clean the entire home to get rid of all the things that are associated with the old year.
Put away all brooms and brushes.
Pay all your debts.
A new set of clothes and shoes for children, preferably something red or orange.
The later the children sleeps tonight, the longer their parents live (longevity).

I am so gonna pinch and slap myself to stay awake tonight...

I'll let you guys know how i spent it tomorrow.

Nasi lemak originates from Malaysia i think.

Best parts of nasi lemak are the chilli and coconut&pandan rice.

I don't know about you but my mouth's watering already!

The big day has arrived

And so the most anticipated day of the year has arrived...

Everyone woke up early with bright smiles on their faces and big Ang Baos (red packets) in their pockets LOL

Ok to those who don't know the Chinese traditional marriage (which has also been 'modified' along the years),

here's the jest of it.

The groom, together with his groomsmen,

will set off early in the morning to 'obtain' the bride.

And in order to do that,

they will first have to pass the 'tests' set by the bridesmaids before allowing the groom to see his bride.

Make sense?

Back in the olden days,

(quote from the internet)

- pushups

So he finally get to see his bride and bring her home for the tea ceremony.

People just concocted some brownish, weird looking drink for him to drink.

Then it's my turn to get busy...

my brother's big day

It was my brother's big day yesterday.

We were all busy running around,

buying the necessary stuffs,

making sure everything's well prepared.

Although all i did was to accompany my mom everywhere to buy things,

i can feel the 'after-effects' of going out every single day.

Very tiring wor...

Of course it can't be compared to the newly wedded.

All the months and months of planning and preparations, yet still having to work.

Whats worse...having to hold your smile throughout the whole day.

Ask me to smile for the camera for more than a couple of minutes and i can feel my smile trembling.

muahahaha

If i were to get married in future,

i'll choose the easy way out.

ROM (the usual solemnisation), tea ceremony then a buffet.

TADA...all done.

No grand wedding dinner.

Save the energy, time and money for my honeymoon.

Any unnecessary conflicts may be avoided too.

The last day of 2007

Today's the last day of 2007.

A good time to reflect on what I've done for the past 12 months,

and think of what my resolutions are for the next 12 months.

Adopt a healtier lifestyle (Eat healthy - less junk food; Sleep healthy - sleep early, wake up early and have 7-8hrs of sleep each day; and....exercise - maybe i'll start off with core secrets).
Must remember to moisturize from face to toe and apply sunscreen everyday.
Get all 7s for my IELTS
Find a good full-time job in my field of study
Go for a holiday (maybe Taiwan? heeheehee~)
Try to be more positive and cheerful

There...6 resolutions for now.

Who knows...maybe another few resolutions will pop up tomorrow and the day after tomorrow and the day after yada yada...hehe so what are your 2008 resolutions?

Merry Xmas peepz!!!

Sorry for the late greetings but i've been busy the moment i reach Singapore.

The heat almost consumed me when i stepped out of the airport.

So what have I done for the past couple of days...?

Eat...Shop...Buy...

Then more eating...more shopping...and more buying...

(side track: I forgot to bring back my mouse (*_*). It's so troublesome to use the mouse control on my labtop! ggrrrr...)

1st night:

Dinner with my family and cousin.

2nd day:

Breakfast with my family.

Omg...i ate a bowl of prawn noodle that costed me a grand total of....$2!!!!!!

Beat that muahahahaha

Then we bought some snacks home...

Ang Ku Kuey with sweet peanut filling...yum

It's dyed red for good luck (according to Chinese traditions).

Soft...chewy...sweet and fragrant..hhmmmm....

Spicy fish otah...double yum...

Otah is a mixture of fish paste (usually mackerel) and spices including chillies, garlic, shallots, turmeric, lemon grass and coconut milk. The mixture is wrapped in a banana leaf then grilled.

Crispy on the outside and soft in the inside.

Then dinner with Sally, Angel and Jeff at a Jap restaurant.

I'm such an insensitive fool sometimes...

Have you ever said things to people then regret immediately?

I may feel frustrated, I may feel tired after a long day at work.

Customers may be unreasonable and may have said things that pissed me off but that doesn't give me any reason to allow my emotions affect people around me.

Everytime I said something I didn't mean to,

no matter how minor it was,

I'll feel bad for days on end.

Here's what happened...

The crowd was crazy.

It doesn't seem to end and we don't have sufficient staffs.

We have to work really fast.

I was working on one end and she on the other.

Working as fast as i could but seeing her move somewhat leisurely frustrates me.

There's one time where she just stood there with a Sub in front of her,

while there are 2 Subs are toasting in oven.

Instead saving time and start working on the Sub in front of her,

she simply stood there, not moving.

Without thinking,

i asked her, "Why aren't you working on the salad?"

The moment it came out of my mouth,

I regretted it.

No matter how nicely i said it,

I still feel like hitting myself for being so insensitive.

Who am i to question her?

Yes, it may be busy but everyone has their own speed and way of working.

Sometimes i wish i can turn back time and think before i speak.

I'll have to try to watch my speech more carefully.

I want to appologize to her but the next time i work would be 1 month later.

I guess the appology will come 1 month late.

Better late than never...

National Treasure - Book of secrets

Went shopping yesterday to get some biscuits for my brother.

It was so crowded and everyone's busy with their Xmas shopping.

But we came out of the shopping mall empty handed (except for 12 rolls of toilet paper).

I was disappointed to see those biscuit shelves near empty.

They don't have the flavor i'm after.

Not wanting that to be a wasted trip,

we decided to catch a movie.

The premiere of...

And guess what...they finally introduced the 'allocated seats system' after so long!

Anyhow...

I thought the movie's pretty good, though the first one's better.

And Nicolas Cage's hair looked ssoooo ugly in this movie!

Man...they should have done something about it.

While we were on the way to the cinema,

we were handed 2 vouchers to redeem free chips!

YAY!!!

I love free things ahahahahaha

damn cheapo right.

I think they are a relatively new eating place that sells burgers.

Looking at their menu,

they burgers are way too expensive!!!

An average of $10-11 per burger with no sides and drinks?

Unless their burgers are big enough for 2, then i'll eat there one day.

Otherwise I don't think you'll see me there but thanks for the free chips though :p

Look what i bought for Tinky this time...

Nice or not?

She drives my family crazy with squeaky toys.

She gets a kick out of 'squeaking' her new toy for days till my parents (and even my grandma and maid) go "Aiyo!!! Tinky ar, chao shi ren la!"

Or they'll go " Tinky! Very noisy leh u!"

To which Tinky will pause for a few seconds, look up innocently with her big 'puppy eyes', then totally ignore them and continue to squeak happily away.

I find that pretty funny ahahahaha

Until the noise get to me then i'll remove the squeak and silent the toy forever.

But she'll still love the toy after it's silent nonetheless.

But her favourite toy of all time is...

tennis ball.

It's hard to find mini-sized tennis balls in Sg.

So i'll definately buy some for her eveytime i go back.

And because she destroys a ball in a matter of hours.

I usually buy a few back.

Hopefully these extra strength tennis balls can last her more than a day.

Can't wait to see her...

Update:

hehehe I realised that i didn't explain clearly as to why we were so desperate to move out of our previous apartment (which we loveeee).

It's because of the owners of the place.

They wanted to move back in hence we have to move out.

And even if they're not intending to move in and we renew our contract,

the rent would raise significantly...like $50-$70 per week all due to the fact that rental property is in high demand now.
That's a huge jump.

Plus we're just students (not those rich ones :p)

So bo bian la...have to move out.

*sigh*

HURRAY!!!
The internet's finally up and running.

So here's the full update of my house moving.

It's gonna be a long long story.

Or you can also call it my long long whinging story.

As I've mentioned previously,
we found our current apartment when we were almost homeless.

...3 days before we were homeless to be exact...

We sent out about 6 rental applications but only one got back to us.

So we grabbed it without further hesitation.

But the owner was still refurbishing the apartment so we can only move our things into the garage...which is really dodgy...and quite dirty...and shared!!

You know what's worse?

There's a light bulb there but nobody can find the switch to turn the light on.

Even , Lourn, the new owner of the place,

has no idea where the switch is.

(-_-')

So it's pitch dark inside at night.

*sigh*

Everytime before we move,we have to thoroughly clean up the place and get the carpet professionally cleaned before handing it over.

It's the standard procedure.

We were planning to get someone to clean it up like our first place but to no avail.

We got the carpet cleaner though.

So no choice lor...have to DIY.

It woudn't be that difficult and tiring if both of us aren't working or have one extra day to do it.

To make things worse,

my hands are sensitive to one of the cleaning agents.

At first it was painful, then rashes developed (it's really very itchy wor), after that my hands became so dry it started to crack.

Very pain...

Wait...

there's more to come.

While Jason's friends are helping us to move our stuff from the garage up to the new apartment,

the staircase creaked when they are carrying the heavy stuff (fridge, washing machine etc).

And this @$#^*& neighbour complained that our moving is causing the staircase to make too much noise.

Wa piang...

like that also want to complain.

What does he expect us to do?

Use a forklift or a crane?

Fly like Nathan Petrelli?

And guess what,

the neighbour that complained is an asian.

*roll eyes*

It's these kind of people that create a bad name for all asians...seriously.

Anyway, back to the story.

Lourn knows that we need to move in quickly so he did his renovation late into the night.

By late i mean like 4am.

So nice of him.

But he did not clean up the place!

SO ONCE AGAIN....

We (or mainly me coz Jason's working) have to clean AGAIN.

My poor hands.

But i bought long rubber gloves for cleaning this time round muahahaha.

The oven was the most disgusting.

The inside of the oven door was yellowish brown.

So you can imagine how dirty the oven was.

I have to remove all the racks and flood the oven with oven cleaning for hours to clean it.

And i have to do that TWICE so now the inside is finally clean.

The carpet too.

even though it brand new,

all those renovations made it really dusty and dirty.

The windows weren't clean too.

Having fly screens are as good as not having any as parts of it are torn along the edges.

Flys and creepycrawlies are coming in still.

Like this fella here...

The dryer too...the moment we open the door,

dust 'flew' out, literally.

Man...sorry my whining seems to have no end kekekeke

okok one last thing,

the curtains, or lack thereof.

We have to use make-shift curtains for the past 2 weeks,

Those window 'curtains' are just sheets of paper held up by double-sided tape.

The balcony curtains are 2 big sheets of white cloth held up by some clips, a wire and 2 nails.

The toilet, has NO curtains at all.

Me and Jason felt so 'naked' when we bathe even though the windows are ripple-translucent kind.

Hence we have to put up a huge piece of cardboard.

Oh well...

enough of my complains.

The best part of the house is the kitchen.
Most people who came to our place will say, "i like your kitchen!"

It can get really really noisy during peak hours.

We're still getting use to it.

Compared to my previous place.

Peace and serenity...

I miss our old place so much.

But overall,

our new place isn't all that bad lar.

I'm happy to have a place to stay.

quick update

I decide to do a quick update...

It was so hard to find a rental property now.

We couldn't find one and were almost homeless.

We were even planning to stay at a backpackers and store our stuffs in a storage place until we find a place but in the end,

we managed to secure our current place only a couple of days before we need to move out from our old place.

The new place is kind of like a downgrade and even a little scary at night (from the outside)...but oh well...beggars can't be choosers i suppose.

I'll upload photos soon and you'll know what i mean.

However, we still spent a couple of days in a motel before moving in as the owner is still renovating the house.

I really want to thank Jeremy, Clarence, Augustin and Eamon for helping us with the moving.

On top of all those crazy days of moving and cleaning and moving and cleaning,

we were busy with our work and all.

CHEESECAKE!!!

The cheesecake there was highly recommended by his friend.

And it was really good.

It base was fresh and crispy,

and doesn't contain any coconut (unlike most cheesecake found in Au *yuck*)

and the cake itself was very, but not overly cheesy and it melts in my mouth.

I hate those who bully seniors.

Some seniors can be really unreasonable and rude but in this case,

the old man was actually really nice and was trying so hard to peddle with 3 grown men sitting in this rickshaw.

Watch and you'll know what am i pissed about.

3 (pathetic and brainless) British a**holes in the video, probably weigh 200 kgs combined, wanted a 67-year old man to ferry them on his human-powered trishaw.

Throughout the ride, they were mocking him openly.

When they decided they have made enough fun of the poor man, they pretended to have no money to pay for the SGD$10 ride and made the man follow them around like a beggar.

The video clip ends abruptly but in an interview with "The Newpaper"(a Sg newspaper), the senior gentleman revealed that they left in the cab without paying.

The senior uncle was mocked, humiliated and cheated of his money.

I felt so handicapped for the past 6 days for not having broadband.

The dial-up was so slow that i gave up trying to read blogs or update my blog or watch youtube etc.

I can live without my mobile phone or tv but i can't survive for long without my laptop and broadband internet.

After one insane week of exams and assignments, i'm now only left one assignment!!

Now i can finally take a breather and relax a little.

And catch up on my series, animes, movies, storybooks etc muahahahahahaha

I wonder whether the time will come for me to want to head back to school to do my postgrad and masters...

But there's still heaps of planning i need to do.

I have to look for a casual job! Sent out a few applications and i'm hopping someone will contact me soon.
Look for new accomodation. This is so frustrating. Our current apartment has a new owner and they intend to move in after our lease ends. Due to the high demand of rental properties, all the rent prices have gone up quite a bit. And it is so hard to find a place that is not too expensive, relatively safe, not too dodgy, unfurnished, suits our date (so that we don't have to pay empty rent), not too far from transport (coz i don't have a car...yesyes...i'm MAY go take my licence. Quit pushing me about that already. Oh, Jeremy said he'll be my chauffeur when he buys a car next year kekeke), etcetc. We found a few good ones but they are gone even before we had the chance to book an appointment to view the house. *faints* I guess we just have to stay on our toes and take action before others do.
Go book a date for my ELTS test. It's a english test that i need to take in order to apply for a work permit and PR in future.
After i get my work permit, i need to find a full time job that is in my field of study and work for a year in order to quality for PR application. To keep this short, if i can't find suitable job in about 6months, I'll have to go back to Singapore and my chances of getting a PR in Au will be voided (due to some legislations) then it'll be all up to Jason to apply for PR when he grad then sponsor me over in time to come.
Last and most importantly, i have to think of my family. I spoke to my Dad of my plans to work in Au before so I'm sure he will not disapprove, but what about Tinky? Should i bring her over or should she stay in Sg?

AArrghhhh to much to think about. This uncertainty is so much more stressful than working and studying.

has won the top prize in a writing contest that drew 5,300 entries from 52 countries.
In the annual Commonwealth Essay Competition, Amanda Chong of Raffles Girls' School (Secondary) chose to compete in the older category and won with a piece on the restlessness of modern life.
Her short story, titled What The Modern Woman Wants, focused on the conflict in values between an old lady and her independent-minded daughter.
'Through my story, I attempted to convey the unique East-versus-West struggles and generation gaps that I felt were characteristic of young people in my country,' said Amanda, who likes drama, history and literature andwants to become a lawyer and a politician.
Chief examiner Charles Kemp called her piece a 'powerfully moving and ironical critique of modern restlessness and its potentially cruel consequences'.

The writing is fluent and assured, with excellent use of dialogue.

Amanda gets (S$1,590). A Singaporean last won the top prize in 2000, said Britain 's Royal Commonwealth Society, which has been organising the competition since 1883.

Singaporeans also came in second in the 14 to 15-year-old category, and fourth in the under-12s. Other winners included students from Australia, Canada and South Africa .

The old woman sat in the backseat of the magenta convertible as it careened down the highway, clutching tightly to the plastic bag on her lap,
afraid it may be kidnapped by the wind.
She was not used to such speed,
with trembling hands she pulled the seatbelt tighter but was careful not to touch the patentleather seats with her callused fingers,
her daughter had warned her not to dirty it,
'Fingerprints show very clearly on white, Ma.'

Her daughter, Bee Choo, was driving and talking on her sleek silver mobile phone using big words the old woman could barely understand. 'Finance' 'Liquidation' 'Assets' 'Investments'...
Her voice was crisp andimportant and had an unfamiliar lilt to it.
Her Bee Choo sounded like one of those foreign girls on television.
She was speaking in an American accent.
The old lady clucked her tongue in disapproval.

'I absolutely cannot have this. We have to sell!'
Her daughter exclaimed agitatedly as she stepped on the accelerator; her perfectly manicured fingernails gripping onto the steering wheel in irritation.
'I can't DEAL with this anymore' she yelled as she clicked the phone shut and hurled it angrily towardthe backseat.
The mobile phone hit the old woman on the forehead and nestled soundlessly into her lap. She calmly picked it up and handed it to her daughter.

'Sorry, Ma,' she said, losing the American pretence and switching to Mandarin.
'I have a big client in America. There have been a lot of problems.'
The old lady nodded knowingly.
Her daughter was big and important.
Bee Choo stared at her mother from the rear view window, wondering what she was thinking.
Her mother's wrinkled countenance always carried the same cryptic look.
The phone began to ring again, an artificially cheerful digital tune, which broke the awkward silence.

'Hello, Beatrice! Yes, this is Elaine.'
Elaine.
The old woman cringed.
I didn't name her Elaine.
She remembered her daughter telling her, how an English name was very important for 'networking', Chinese ones being easily forgotten.
'Oh no, I can't see you for lunch today. I have to take the ancient relic to the temple for her weirddaily prayer ritual.'

Ancient Relic.
The old woman understood perfectly it was referring to her.
Her daughter always assumed that her mother's silence meant she did not comprehend.
'Yes, I know! My car seats will be reeking of joss sticks'
The old woman pursed her lips tightly, her hands gripping her plastic bag in defence.
The car curved smoothly into the temple courtyard.
It looked almost garish next to the dull sheen of the ageing temple's roof.
The old woman got out of the back seat, and made her unhurried way to the main hall.

Her daughter stepped out of the car in her business suit and stilettos and reapplied her lipstick as she made her brisk way to her mother's side.
'Ma, I'll wait outside. I have an important phone call to make,' she said, not bothering to hide her disgust at the pungent fumes of incense.
The old lady hobbled into the temple hall and lit a joss stick, she knelt down solemnly and whispered her now familiar daily prayer to the Gods.

Thank you God of the Sky, you have given my daughter luck all these years.
Everything I prayed for, you have given her.
She has everything a young woman in this world could possibly want.
She has a big housewith a swimming pool, a maid to help her, as she is too clumsy to sew or cook.
Her love life has been blessed; she is engaged to a rich and handsome angmoh man.
Her company is now the top financial firm and even men listen to what she says.
She lives the perfect life.
You have given her everything except happiness.
I ask that the gods be merciful to her even if she has lost her roots while reaping the harvest of success.

What you see is not true - she is a filial daughter to me.
She gives me a room in her big house and provides well for me.
She is rude to me only because I affect her happiness.
A young woman does not want to behindered by her old mother.
It is my fault.
The old lady prayed so hard that tears welled up in her eyes.
Finally, with her head bowed in reverence she planted the half-burnt joss stick into an urn of smouldering ashes.
She bowed once more.

The old woman had been praying for her daughter for thirty-two years.
When her stomach was round like a melon, she came to the temple and prayed that it was a son.
Then the time was ripe and the baby slipped out of her womb, bawling and adorable with fat thighs and pink cheeks, but unmistakably, a girl.
Her husband had kicked and punched her for producing a useless babywho could not work or carry the family name.

Still, the woman returned to the temple with her new-born girl tied to her waist in a sarong and prayed that her daughter would grow up and have everything she ever wanted.
Her husband left her and she prayedthat her daughter would never have to depend on a man.
She prayed every day that her daughter would be a great woman, the woman that she, meek and uneducated,could never become.
A woman with nengkan; the ability to do anything she set her mind to.
A woman who commanded respect in the hearts of men.
When she opened her mouth to speak, precious pearls would fallout and men would listen.

She will not be like me, the woman prayed as she watched her daughter grow up and drift away from her, speaking a language she scarcely understood.
She watched her daughter transform from a quiet girl, toone who openly defied her, calling her laotu; old-fashioned.
She wanted her mother to be 'modern', a word so new there was no Chinese word for it.

Now her daughter was too clever for her and the old woman wondered why she had prayed like that.
The gods had been faithful to her persistent prayer, but the wealth and success that poured forth so richly had buried the girl's roots and now she stood, faceless, with no identity, bound to the soil of her ancestors by only a string of origami banknotes.

Her daughter had forgotten her mother's values.
Her wants were so ephemeral; that of a modern woman.
Power, Wealth, access to the best fashion boutiques, and yet her daughter had not found true happiness.
The old woman knew that you could find happiness with much less.
When her daughter left the earth everything She had would count for nothing.
People would look to her legacy and say that she was a great woman, but shewould be forgotten once the wind blows over, like the ashes of burnt paper convertibles and mansions.
The old woman wished she could go back and erase all her big hopes and prayers for her daughter; now she had only one want: That her daughter be happy.
She looked out of the temple gate.
She saw her daughter speaking on the phone, her brow furrowed with anger and worry.
Being at the top is not good, the woman thought, there is only one way to go from there - down.

The old woman carefully unfolded the plastic bag and spread out a packet of beehoon in front of the altar.Her daughter often mocked her for worshipping porcelain Gods.
How could she pray to them so faithfully and expect pieces of ceramic to fly to her aid?
But her daughter had her own gods too, idols of wealth, success and power that she was enslaved to and worshipped every day of her life.
Every day was a quest for the idols, and the idols she worshipped counted for nothing in eternity.
All the wants her daughter had would slowly suck the life out of her and leave her, an empty soulless shell at the altar.

The old lady watched her joss tick.
The dull heat had left a teetering grey stem that was on the danger of collapsing.
Modern woman nowadays, the old lady sighed in resignation, as she bowed to the east one final timeto end her ritual.
Modern woman nowadays want so much that they lose their souls and wonder why they cannot find it.

Her joss stick disintegrated into a soft grey powder.
She met her daughter outside the temple, the same look of worry and frustration was etched on her daughter's face.
An empty expression, as if she was ploughing through the soil of her wants looking for the one thing that would sow the seeds of happiness.
They climbed into the convertible in silence and her daughter drove along the highway, this time not as fast as she had done before.

'Ma,' Bee Choo finally said. 'I don't know how to put this.
Mark and I have been talking about it and weplan to move out of the big house.
The property market is good now, and we managed to get a buyer willing to pay seven million for it. We decided we'd prefer a cosier penthouse apartment instead.
We found a perfectone in Orchard Road .
Once we move in to our apartment we plan to get rid of the maid, so we can have more space to ourselves... The old woman nodded knowingly.

Bee Choo swallowed hard.
'We'd get someone to come in to do the housework and we can eat out-but once themaid is gone, there won't be anyone to look after you. You will be awfully lonely at home and, besides that,the apartment is rather small. There won't be space. We thought about it for a long time, and we decidedthe best thing for you is if you moved to a Home. There's one near Hougang-it's a Christian home, a very nice one.'
The old woman did not raise an eyebrow.
'I've been there, the matron is willing to take you in. It's beautiful with gardens and lots of old people to keep you company! I hardly have time for you, you'd behappier there.'

'You'd be happier there, really.'
Her daughter repeated as if to affirm herself.
This time the old woman had no plastic bag of food offerings to cling tightly to; she bit her lip and fastened her seat belt, as if it would protect her from a daughter who did not want her anymore. She sunk deep into the leather seat, letting her shoulders sag, and her fingers trace the white seat.
'Ma?' her daughter asked, searching the rear view window for her mother.
'Is everything okay?'
What had to be done, had to be done.
'Yes,' she said firmly, louder than she intended, 'if it will make you happy,' she added more quietly.

'It's for you, Ma! You'll be happier there. You can move there tomorrow, I already got the maid to packyour things.' Elaine said triumphantly, mentally ticking yet another item off her agenda.
'I knew everything would be fine.' Elaine smiled widely; she felt liberated.
Perhaps getting rid of her mother would make her happier.
She had thought about it. It seemed the only hindrance inher pursuit of happiness.
She was happy now.
She had everything a modern woman ever wanted; Money, Status,Career, Love,Power and now, Freedom, without her mother and her old-fashioned ways to weigh her down... Yes, she was free.
Her phone buzzed urgently, she picked it up and read the message, still beaming fromear to ear. 'Stocks 10% increase!'
Yes, things were definitely beginnin g to look up for her...And while searching for the meaning of life in the luminance of her hand phone screen, the old woman inthe backseat became invisible, and she did not see the tears.

In times of boredom,

we turn to series and youtube to kill time as tv in Australia are mostly reruns.

Or Australian drama series that are almost as old as me.

*yawnz*

While waiting for the new season release of 'Heros', 'Prison Break', and 'Lost',

we decided to try others out.

And now,

i'm addicted.

It's like cigarette or coffee addiction.

You will crave for it everyday.

Here's an overview of the series we've watched.

The series revolves around student Jaime Sommers, who is saved from death after receiving experimental medical implants.

While adjusting to her new bionic powers, Jamie agrees to work for the organization that performed her surgery.

We watched the first episode and didn't like it.

It may get better as the series continues but still...

We didn't bother to continue with it.

After fleeing a Nigerian operation blown apart by the sudden and unexplained non-cooperation of his U.S. contact, abandoned by all his normal intelligence contacts, under continuous surveillance, and his personal assets frozen.

Consumed by the desire to find out why he's been burned, and by whom, he goes to work as an unlicensed private investigator and freelance spy for anyone in town who can pay him any money in order to fund his personal investigation into his own situation as a blacklisted agent.

Watched a couple of series...

It's so-so only.

May continue to watch it if there's time.

p/s: i love all the dresses the lady on the right wore in the series!!!

p/p/s: Jason liked the series better than i did...So maybe it's more of a 'guyish' series.

Psych is an American comedy-drama television series. The show stars James Roday as Shawn Spencer, a young police consultant whose "heightened observational skills" and impressive detective instincts allow him to convince people that he is psychic.

The program also stars Dulé Hill as Shawn's best friend, straight man and reluctant partner Gus, as well as Corbin Bernsen as Shawn's captious father, Henry.

I like this show!

James Roday was 'trained' by his dad, a law officer, since young and grew up with great observation and deduction skills.

And his best friend, Dulé Hill's really funny in it hahahaha

And there's this interim police chief in the show who always have this constipated look on his face.

Muahahahahaha

Last but not least and one that i'm most excited about...

Kyle (Matt Dallas) is a sixteen-year-old boy who wakes up in a forest on the edge of Seattle totally naked and without any memories of an earlier life. Kyle is like a newborn baby in his lack of knowledge of human social life: he doesn't know the simplest things, like how to eat or drink, and cannot communicate with others.

...And he doesn't even know how to pee...

It sounds like a simple story but it gets more and more interesting as the story unfolds.

It's week 10 of my final semester in Uni life.

And i'm still surviving.

wow...

and i just come to realise that I've only being out of the house once in the past 5 days.

*bringing out the trash doesn't count*

It felt good even though it's groceries shopping.

Or maybe looking at those adorable puppies in the pet shop kept my spirits high till now.

The days whirled by me.

Nothing significant happened that's blog worthy.

Just the usual 'assignmenting'.

It's not like i have a choice.

I have 1 presentation, 2 final exams and 3 assignments due in week 13.

So it's do-it-now-or-i'm-a-goner.

Can't make any mistakes now or i'm toast.

Today marks the end of our mid semester break.

It's not much of a break anyway.

However,

we did spend a day bbqing along the beach.

I was so busy eating that i didn't get to snap a photo of the beautiful beach and sunset.

Bbqing in Aussie is free unlike Singapore where you have to book in advance and pay.

Plus the bbq pit uses hot plate rather than charcoal.

Healthier but somehow charcoal bbq taste nicer.

And Clarence caught a crab.

Which later ended up in our tummy.

heehee

yeah...that bbq was the most eventful day of my holiday.

Other days are just plain boring,

pouring all my energy and time upon assignments.

bummer

Oh,

i went out to do a survey with my group members too.

It's my first time approaching people along the streets for that.

Usually it's surveyors who approach me.

Now i understand how they feel.

Our target population: pensioners.

We thought we'll find them at a lawn bowls club.

We were wrong.

Oh well...

In the end,

we resort to approaching elderlys that crossed our paths as we walk aimlessly towards the Valley.

We met a vast array of people with different responses.

Some helpful, some skeptical (sad to say but most of them are asians) and some rude ones.

And our last pit stop,

Chinatown.

This is where we collected most of our data and the last person we surveyed was lovely.

I sat on my chair, trying to recall the model number of my very first mobile phone but to no avail.
Even the image of the phone was blurred.
I only know it's by Siemens,
it's yellow and black,
and it's shock-proof.

I tried my luck with google image but came up with nothing.

I guess not only is that model obsolete,

so is its picture.

hahahahaha

The second phone i owned was

It was during my poly days when i had this piece.

I like the buttons of this phone.

Resembles a butterfly to me.

It's still a non-color phone,

except it has blue lights instead of the usual white.

And lastly,

my third phone,

also my current phone,

*pardon my obscene wallpaper...

It has been with me for 4+ years.

This phone never once failed me.

Very loyal, very durable, very user friendly.

And i thought it's incredible that the original screen protector is still there after all these years.

yeah...i've only had 3 phones till now.

I haven't given much thought as to which phone i would like to get to replace my current one.

Argghh...dryness...Hate it.

It been ssooo dry recently.

So it's statics galore.

And my hands...

It's so dry, it hurts.

I don't have the habit of bringing a tube of hand cream with me when i go out.

So they became really dry and cracked.

Now my hands have rough red patches and they hurt.

It has never being easy studying here.
Everyone thinks it’s ‘a walk in the park’.
Even my Dad felt coming over here is like taking a long holiday.
It saddens me.
Quoting from a guy I recently got to know,
“before coming over here, everyone told me it’s gonna be easy.
But it’s the total opposite.”
I agreed.
It was never easy.
Having to handle everything myself.
From familiarizing the roads, Uni and accent to groceries shopping & bills to being discriminated to…you name it.
It felt like growing up again.
Growing up in a whole new world,
With a whole different culture.
Not knowing anyone but only Jason.
Thank god I have Jason by my side.
And I’m not one who approaches strangers and say ‘hi’ to begin with.
Surrounded by unknown faces.
I missed my family.
They who are not devious or pretentious.
They who know me and love me for whom I am.
I missed Tinky, my baby.
Those big round ‘puppy eyes’ and wet loving licks of hers.
She who may not talk human,
But quietly comforts me by staying by my side and loving me unconditionally.
I missed all my friends.
Friends who understand me.
Friends who appreciate me.
Friends who speak the same ‘language’ as me.
I felt so relieved to know Clarence was coming to Brisbane.
A familiar face at last.
True, I got to know new people here.
People from all round the world.
People of all race and religion.
People with all sorts of characters and personalities.
Some are nice and down to earth.
Others just make me wonder who they really are within.
Aren’t friends suppose to help each other out,
Rather than ingratiating with you if you are still of some use to him/her and throwing you aside when you are no longer needed?
It disgusts me to see how one can act like a retarded dog in front of someone,
Yet behaved like a pathetic jackass in front of another.

There goes another busy busy week...

And I've 2 assignments and 1 presentation due next week.

*pulls hair*

We headed over to Uni last night to bury ourselves in the piles and piles of work we need complete.

It was sooo freaking cold!!!

It has been raining for the past couple of days.

Suddenly, it doesn't feel like Spring anymore.

Give me back my Spring!!!

I love the computer lab at night.

Without all the crowd and noise.

Except for a group of loud China students who left after a while.

Thank god for that.

Why is it always the China people who get on my nerves?

Why are they so inconsiderate...or are they just living in a world of their own?

A study session outside is never complete without snacks and a flask of hot tea.

But we depleted our supplies by 3am.

And we need a hot cuppa tea.

So we braved the icy cold winds to get to the nearest hot drinks vending machine.

The rows and rows of vending machines that accompanied students throughout the night...

I love my campus.

Gives me a sense of serenity at night.

The wind stung me like needles so I had to snuggle into my jacket...

It's the first day of Spring and i'm loving it.

Flowers blooming...great weather...

Everything's great except my motivation to study.

It's my last semester and i'm in no mood to study!!!

Have been forcing myself to finish up my assignments every week.

Well, other than pushing myself,

we also helped Augustine & Alvin move into their new place last week.

Went for a couple of fishing trips and coffee gatherings.

Got to know new friends with interesting characters and stories.

Last but not least,

my first try in making sushi!!!

Together with miso soup...mmmmm

heehee i'm a little over generous with my fillings.

Ok got to go try and force myself to study...if possible LOL

rainy week

The weather has been very rainy here for the past week.

Days like that are best spend at home,

snuggle up against my fluffed up pillows,

under a cozy and warm comforter,

sipping a cup of hot cocoa topped with marshmallows,

slow, relaxing music playing in the background,

reading a book or my favourite magazine.

That,

of course,

did not happen.

No hot cocoa,

no marshmallows,

no music,

nor a book or magazine.

Oh well...

the next best thing then.

A bowl of hot fudge brownie and a cup of hot tea,

while watching an episode of GuessGuessGuess.

birthday update

ok here are the photos.

hee i didn't touch my books at all yesterday.

I think i deserved it.

It's my birthday afterall.

So all time was spent on watching taiwanese drama on YouTube and games.

Until dinner...

I went out to dinner with Jason, Augustine and Eamon.

We decided on Japanese...

Eamon and Augustine ordered the deluxe tray.

Along with many many other plates of food.

They're huge eaters.

Especially Eamon...it's scary to see him eat.

If everyone eats like him,

if everyone has a stomach like him,

a stomach like the size of the universe but yet remain so thin,

people in buffet businesses will file for bankruptcy.

hahahahaha

Back to the topic...

Jason and I ordered one salmon set.

It was quite fresh but the mackerel was nothing to shout about.

And a eel and avocado set.

This sushi,

i tell you,

really hit the spot.

The moment my teeth sink into this sushi,

the burst of flavour was unbelievable.

The whole world suddenly seems so bright,

with angels singing in the light.

It felt like i'm falling in love for the first time.

OMG...

I...I...looked at Jason and he looked at me,

exchanging looks,

knowing we're both thinking of the same thing.

The eel was hot and freshly grilled,

rice was done perfectly,

the seaweed crispy,

avocado was fresh,

and from within,

chilled crab stick and cucumber, lightly coated with japanese mayo.

The Yin and Yang combination was so perfect that no words can discribe.

*sigh*

I'm still thinking about it after 24hrs later.

LOL

Jason ordered one last plate to satisfy his hunger.

Fried prawn sushi.

He said it was quite nice too.

It's funny how the chef decorate with a dribble of mayo on top of 2 sushi.

If you know what i'm saying.

wahahahahaha

Then we head over to Coffee Club for a cup of tea and cake.

The coffee was pretty good,

just not strong enough.

The cookies and cream cheesecake wasn't that yummy.

We were happily chatting away,

when suddenly, CRASH!!

Cups and saucers broke into thousand pieces,

tea and coffee splattered everywhere,

and onto my boots,

and Jason's shirt, bermudas, legs and slippers.

Poor Jason!!

The barista clearing the table behind us was trying to clear up everything in one trip,

hence the slip-up

And no compensation was made to us!

Just a word of sorry and asked us to move to another table.

ggrrrrr

Next,

we went over to Augustine's place to get his PS2 then to Blockbuster to rent some games.

And the rest of the night was spent playing PS2 at our place.

Well...that marks the end of my birthday and the start of an older me...

The 5 things i hate about winter:

Static (I'm highly charged most of the time...arrgghhh...it hurts!)
I get hungry so easily...so i usually gain some weight during winter *darn*
Brisbane is very dry. The weather that is. And when it comes to winter, it's...bad...real bad. I can feel my skin 'crack' when i forgot my moisturiser.
The winter wind. It hurts when those winter wind sets in.
It's soooo freaking hard to wake up in the morning!!! Now i understand why animals hybernate during winter.

I'm still thinking of how to complete it.

yeah...it's been months and i'm still thinking about it.

It is THAT hard.

And i came to a conclusion that I have absolutely no answer to that tag but i still want to do it.

Chai Tow Kway or Fried Carrot Cake

yearning for that smooth and soft radish and rice flour cake to envelop it,

teased with black sweet soy sauce and scrambled eggs,

flavoured with garlic,

a white version sans black sweet soy but replaced with pepper and garlic instead.
Ahhh…

It’s complicating.

What when some of them press bits of black mushrooms,

pumpkin,

yam,

Chinese sausage and hei be (dried shrimps) into it,

steam them and top it with fried shallots and coriander.

It demands that you eat it,

sliced,

on it own,

as it is.

A soft and lightly savoury cake with all this tasty bits creating delicious havoc on your palate with a simple sweet chilli sauce on guard.

here's my final udate on my last trip back to Singapore.

I went to esplanade aka 'The Durian' with Jason, his brother and parents.

I was my first time there hahaha

and to call myself a Singaporean...shame on me.

The moment i stepped in,

I was awed by those 'art' pieces displayed.

Although I don't understand the meaning/story behind them.

Most of them looked really weird.

Like this human-body-giraffe-neck-camel-head-sitting-on-a-high-chair piece.

Creepy...

Walking down the hallway,

there're more art pieces hanging down from the celling

I have absolutely no idea what those things are.

Not my cup of tea.

I wonder what are on those artists' minds when they're drawing.

Next,

My last meeting with Angel and Sally before heading back to Brizzie.

We went to Marche for dinner.

Before i came back,

I went to shop for slippers with my parents.

hehehehe bought 2 pairs.

Happy!!

Good and cheap.

The salesgirl was trying to get me to buy the display pair,

which was also the last pair of my size.

I refused, telling her that it's dirty.

(I'm sure countless people tried it on)

She kept saying it's new and it's clean blahblahblah.

So to prove to her,

I told her to bring me a brand new pair from their store.

When placed side by side,

the display pair was literally yellow in color!

Here comes the best part.

The salesgirl said:

"Just go home and wash la! Then it'll be good as new."

That's the dumbest comment I've heard from a sales person.

So in the end i bought a new part that's half a size bigger.

My parents got to know alot of friends through yoga.

One of them baby-sits her sister's children.

And they are so cute!

The little boy, Aden(not sure if i spelled it right) loves to play on my bed.

He gets really playful once he warms up to you.

Aden's sister, Alki (again, not sure if i spelled it right) is really pretty (but kind of vain LOL).

She never ties her beautiful hair because she thinks they'll be damaged.

hahahahahaha

They are lovely nonetheless.

Their mum's a chinese and dad's a nepalese.

So Alki really hates her 'tan' appearance which she got from her dad.

"So never talk to her about her dark skin"

said her auntie.

On the contrary,

It started last night.

We smelt something weird...something burning.

Through news then we realised that forest fires to the west of the city and a bushfire at Gold Coast are responsible for the haze.

Weather report states that,

'the haze should clear fairly quickly by mid-morning to a fine day'

I was hoping it would as my eyes are irritated by the haze.

But...

damn...it seems it has gotten worse.

At last i've some free time to myself.

So i can blog now kekekeke

I slept soo early last night.

Around 9pm i think.

I was so tired that i almost dozed off during dinner.

Anyway,

back to the main point.

My trip back to Sg.

Everyone was asking me,

"how's your trip back?"

And my reply was,

"The food was AWESOME!!"

One would only learn how to truely appreciate those food after being away for a long time.

One of Singaporeans fav food is...

Ba Chor Mee

(Mince pork noodles)

But since I don't eat pork,

I'll usually eat...

Fishball noodles!

Love it!!

Those sweet and bouncy and juicy fishballs...yummmm

They nice and cheap.

Only S$2.50.

I can never find Singapore food that tastes half as good in Brizzie.

Plus the cheapest noodles i can find in here cost A$5.50.

Not to mention,

it sucks...

Durians!!!!

Its either you love them or hate them.

I love them.

I like them cold so usually i'll store them in the fridge overnight.

YUM!

There are many variety of durians.

I love durians that are bitter sweet.

hahahahaha i know this looked disgusting.

But it's just fishball with chilli.

Old Chang Kee has two types of chilli.

One is just the normal chilli sauce and another is some sort of sambal chilli.

I love their sambal chilli!

Thus you see nothing but red in the above bag.

wahahaha

I always tell Jason that i want to open an Old Chang Kee here in Brizzie.

I'm sure it'll be a hit among young and old.

I'm in Brizzie once again.

The flight back was rather boring and tiring.

Coz have to transit in Perth.

I thought (and was told) that I need not worry about my laguage as it'll be transported onto the transit flight by the airport.

But i was so wrong.

Arrgghhh

And the transit flight that i board from Perth has no personal telly!

Luckily I have a story book with me.

I was so tired by the time i reach Brisbane as the whole trip took me 12hrs+.

So much to do when i got back.

Firstly,

our old second-hand fridge spoilt.

So we have to buy another one.

*sigh*

Then we have to buy groceries,

unpack my stuff, meet lecturer etcetc.

Anyway,

no time now.

Singapore Trip - Part 4

I can't remember which day i eat what and forgot to take pictures of many food i ate too.

Anyway, here goes:

Few days ago,

we had a barbeque at Jason's condo.

It's a small gathering with a few of Jason's friends.

And i forgot to bring my camera down to take some photos of those yummy food.

Chicken wings, chicken chops, chicken sausages with cheese, otah, sambal squid, crab sticks, tiger prawns, vegetable curry (by Francis), vietnamese cold noodle (by Cindy), salad etc.

YUM!!!

It was a lovely night.

Then the next day,

we went to the Zoo!!!!

Benjamin & Cindy had some free tickets and it's been ages since we last visit the zoo.

Very excited!

Got there and quickly took out my camera.

Took one random photo...

Then...

Almost went to knock my head against the pillar beside me.

Why didn't i charge the battery the night before?

WhyWHyWHY!!!!!

Aarrgghhh.

Ok maybe i can snap a few animals before it totally give up on me', I told myself.

So it was those pointed mouth crocs (forgot the name) first.

eewww...ugly...so no pictures taken to save my precious battery for something better.

Next we saw the magnificent white tiger!

Must take must take!!

This tiger was just walking up and down the stream of water.

Nothing better to do.

I suddenly feel so fortunate to have internet access at home LOL.

arrgghhh!!!

The battery is blinking at me again.

okok switched off my camera again.

Then we walked past a tree and there was this 'wild' monkey sitting right there.

So that's the last picture i took in Singapore Zoo and we're only at the beginning!

We were there for a good 2hrs+.

Jason developed a headache because the weather was really hot.

we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless.

It was a good exercise too kekekeke

so...no more picture of animals.

Day 4 is all home cooked food which i forgot what it was and no picture was taken.

Day 5-9:

It's laksa time!!!!!

With tau pok, laksa leaves, loads of chilli and the works.

Yummmm....

Bought this from a coffee shop near my house.

It's good.

One day must eat Katong laksa again then i'll know which is better.

Egg tarts!!!!!

Love love love portuguese egg tarts.

It's different from the usual egg tart because they used puff pastry as it's crust!

Then it's cooked till the top is very slightly burnt.

Next,

i bought some Ba Kua or Rou Gan in chinese.

It's meat slices, marinated in some special ingredients and barbecued.

It's sweet and salty dried meat,

some sort like jerky,

but in a chinese way.

It's usually pork but since i don't eat pork,

i bought the chicken coins instead.

It's sold all year round but is especially high in demand during Chinese New Year.

There must be some auspicious meaning to it thus people love to give them away as gifts to family and friends at that time of the year.

Too bad Aussie airports are so strict.

Otherwise i'll definately buy some back as gifts.

Love it.

Singapore Trip - Part 2

Day 3:

It was Caden's birthday celebration @ his grandparents' new condo.

He turned 2 on 4th July.

But we had an early birthday party on 30th June.

Caden with mommy.

He looked blurry coz he kept moving!

Caden with Sally.

Because Caden's always running around,

it's hard to take a photo with him.

So Sally had to sneak up behind him while i prepared my camera and quickly took a picture before he runs off.

LOL

And i just realised that I did not take any photo with Caden...

Nevermind...

Sally must help me take some during our next mahjong session.

Ok...back to the party.

Caden's elmo birthday cake.

You can never guess the flavour of the cake.

It's not the usual strawberry or chocolate or vanilla or blackforest or the likes.

It's LYCHEE MARTINI!!!

*faints*

Both me and Sally were saying to mommy Angeline:

"WHAT!!! Lychee Martini!! Don't know whether it's your birthday or your son's birthday man..."

It's not strong or anything like that,

but I bet those kids,

with zero tolerance of alcohol,

had a good night rest.

Then we went up to take a look at the condo.

It's a penhouse but it's kind of small.

*sigh*

Singapore condos are getting smaller and smaller.

The grandparents have this dog.

A dog that doesn't barks.

Not sure if she's a silky or a yorkshire terrier.

But she's one obese dog.

Not only does she has the usual english name,

she even had a chinese name that bears the surname of the Yeo family.

I believe that she weighs at least 2x of Tinky's weight.

Maybe 3x...who knows.

Met up with Sally at Takashimaya to get Caden's birthday present.

Then dinner with Satesh at Changi Village.

This is an Indonesian dish cooked by Malays.

It's called Nasi Penyet.

The chicken is marinated with herbs and spices and deep fried.

Nice!

I love the chilli.

Slightly sweet but spicy...yummyyy....

Hahahaha he's happy with his food.

Day 2:

Jason and I went to Parkway Parade Shopping Center for lunch.

Wanted to eat at Yoshinoya but they closed down.

So we settled for Ajisen Ramen.

Whoa....best ramen in Singapore it states...

We've never tried it before.

We stepped in and someone greeted us with a smile.

Then the Chinese waitress shouted some Japanese words as she brought us to our table and it sounded really...erm...weird.

I don't understand what she said but i'm guessing it means either 'welcome' or 'incoming customers'.

LOL

It wasn't that crowded but it took them a while to tend to our table.

I order their lunch special which consist of their normal ramen and a side dish.

Their noodles are quite 'bouncy' and smooth.

The soup was alright.

Can't say it's mouth-watering delicious.

I selected the fried toufu as my side dish.

It wasn't crispy on the outside and was only warm in the inside.

Bad.

This is Jason's Teriyaki chicken ramen.

He said it was 'not-bad'.

Again,

can't say it was mouth-watering delicious.

He ordered a side dish too.

Salmon sushi...

The rice has a strong vinegar taste but it wasn't to the point of being sour.

The salmon wasn't melt-in-the-mouth fresh.

But it was alright.

And the rice 'broke' once we picked it up with our chopsticks.

A good sushi is not suppose to break when you pick it up.

*sigh...*

And I thought the price is a tad too expensive.

Will not go back again...

Then we head to the travel agency to book my return air ticket.

The travel agent said all flights to Australia are fully booked till August!!

And Uni reopens on 23rd July!!!!!!!

*faints*

Anyway,

everything has been sorted out now.

Managed to get a ticket back to Brizzie just in time for Uni at a resonable price.

*phew*

Then it's dental time...

Hate the sound of those dental equipments.

But i like our dentist, Dr Lee Fen Fen (not sure if i spelled it right).

She's really nice and friendly and talks to me to make me feel comfortable.

I did a normal dental check-up and cleaning while Jason did porcelain veneers for his 2 front teeth.

I want them too!!!

I want to close up the gap between my 2 front teeth.

:(

After hours at the dentist,

we went Changi Village (again) to eat Nasi Lemak!!

The rice is very fragrant as it is cooked in coconut cream and pandan leaves.

Most importantly,

the chilli...oooooo....love love love the chilli!!!!!!!

YUM!

I had it with some anchovies, egg and fried chicken.

Since Jason can't chew properly yet,

he ate Jui Kueh (rice cakes with preserved radish topping) instead.

It's not good.

I've tasted much better Jui Kueh.

And to wash down all these food,

we ordered sugarcane juice.

I'm so disappointed with it.

It's obvious that the hawker diluted it with water.

It's not sweet and only has a hint of sugarcane taste.

BADBADBAD!!!

Hate hawkers who 'cheat' by diluting their drinks with water.

Gggrrrrr...

It's been raining non-stop for the past couple of days.

But the weather was perfect yesterday.

What a fine day it was.

Bright and cloudless.

Eamon was really nice to send us to the airport.

We reach there even before they open the check in counters but already there's a long line of queue.

And we managed to get window seats!!!

So happy!

Wahahahahaha

Though there were some hiccups before we board the plane,

but everything else went smoothly.

Our window seat was the very last row.

It was quite noisy throughout the flight and smells weird even.

But what can we do...

Nonetheless,

I'm happy that i can get a window seat.

And off we go...

Bye Australia!

And we're home!!!

The moment i stepped out of the airport,

All those late nights and insufficient sleep is taking it toll on me.

Now i have a huge ulcer that doesn't seem to go away.

And my dark eye rings seems to become even darker.

What's worse...

there's a pimples party on my face.

I don't think it's because of all those junk food.

Because I did not eat them for weeks.

Anyone know any quick cure for ulcer?

I'm wanted to blog on this 2 weeks ago.
But lazy la...

Anyway,
it was Jason's 27th birthday.
It was a Sunday so i decided to bake him a cake rather than to go out and buy him one.

I wanted to get Betty Crocker's cake mix.

But the local IGA store only have White Wings, Greens and Black & Gold (house brand).

So i settled for White Wings.

I'm supposed to use a cake mixer to mix everything but we don't own one.

So it's DIY.

There...all done and fluffy.

Allowed it to cool for a while before decorating.

Strawberries!!!

This is the center layer of strawberries and cream.

Then followed by the top layer of cream and nice red and juicy whole strawberries.

And ta-da!!

The end product...

NOT!

(in Borat accent)

I WISHED it will look like this.

But my end product looked so hideous that i refused to take a photo of it.

It tasted alright.

Jason thought i bought the cake.

(awww...he's just being nice :p )

Pirates of the Carribean 3

Jason and I finally watched Pirates of the Caribbean 3.

Went to South Bank Cinema this time.

Only $5 per person, plus free parking!!

Cheap! heehee

The sound system isn't as good as Myer's but it's good enough for me.

He's cute eh?

Before the movie starts,

we were enjoying all those pre-movie advertisments.

Then suddenly,

there was this stench...this horrible horrible stench.

Someone removed his/her shoes in the cinema...

-_-"

The smell was so strong that it seems as if that someone place his/her foot right under my nose.

*puke*

We believe it's one of the ladies sitting behind us.

They were in their working clothes and shoes while people beside us were wearing thongs.

We started covering up our noses and making gestures to indicate that it stinks.

wahahahaha

It worked.

She got our 'message' and the smell disappeared soon after so *phew*.

I don't want to be smelling her feet throughout the whole movie.

I didn't sleep much last night.

1-2 hours at most.

I just can't sleep.

Then i have 9am class the next day.

It was drizzling and big gusts of wind that nearly blow my umbrella away.

I rubbed my eye and out came my contact lense.

Tried to put it back while tightly holding on to my unbrella but failed.

The next thing i know,

the wind blew my contact away.

What a perfect way to start the day.

And that was a new set of contacts!

So i was half blinded without my lense.

Went to class looking pitiful, and tired and...blind.

The lecture started within moments with powerpoint slides on and lights dimmed.

That makes my sight even worse.

I can't really see so i'm just listening to my lecturer.

I think he can see that my eyes are kind of 'dreamy'.

(coz i wasn't really looking at anything but listening since i can't see well).

Then he asked a question and point at my direction for an answer.

I sat there for a good 5secs,

thinking..."hmmm...was he pointing at me?"

And he was.

How embarrassing...

hey guys,

I need some advice here.

I got bitten by some insect.

It's been there for some days.

Don't remember how long though.

I'm not sure if it's mosquite.

I thought it was.

And i did not scratch it!

I ease the itch by scratching around it.

Initially,

it looked just like a normal mosquito,

a red itchy bump.

Then couple of days ago,

i saw that there's a little fluid right in the middle of the bump.

I did not touch it.

Then i took a shower and accidenly scratch it while scrubbing myself.

It bled a little.

I know...it looks disgusting!!!

It's like a hole in the middle!

*puke*

It doesn't look like a normal mosquito bite to me.

It's still itchy.

What should i do?

Dettol?

Calamine lotion?

I am so sick of chain letters.

They are just R.I.D.I.C.U.L.O.U.S

period.

Not only are people who believe in those chain letters extremely superstitious,

they are naive.

I mean...who the **** created those chain letters?!?!?!

Chain letters have now 'upgraded' themselves, so to speak.

You no longer receive them only in emails.

I see them in Friendster and even receive them in the form of msn messages.

Do you actually believe in it?

I've read hundreds of chain letters in my life,
and I did NOT forward most of them.
(i did resend my first few chain letters...yeah i'm rather stupid to believe in it then)
And there's no strange evil force from who-knows-where punishing me since I did not obey.

So don't fall for chain letters.

But if you don't cut and paste this blog and put it on your blog or email or msn or whatever,

and forward it to 10000 people,

lighting will strike,

you won't be able to blink for life,

your nose and armpit hair will grow 1000x longer every morning and

your boss will reduce your salary to $4.12 a day.

And if you do,

you will have the best day of your life tomorrow.

Another absurd superstition - car plate numbers.

Here's a true story:

XX was looking for a second-hand car.

Saw one which he really likes.

But there's one problem.

The car plate number has a '4' in it.

What wrong with '4'? some may ask.

Because, when said in mandarin, '4' and 'die' sounds alike.

In the end,

XX bought another car.

Again,

he hates the car plate.

Why?

Because the numbers add up to '13'.

So he bought a new car plate (with a new number of course).

With a '6' in it.

I assume he's happy with it since '6', when said in hokkien sounds like 'luck'.

But not until i saw it LOL.

Before i even see those number,

i told myself that i will go all out to use +, -, x, /, square root, square or what ever mathematical formula available on those numbers and make them '13'.

Or even '4'.

hahahahaha

Yeah i'm mean.

Who cares...

In the end,

it really didn't take much effort to 'convert' his car plate numbers into '13'.

Just simple (A x B - C).

What worse,

jason also came up with another simple calculation to make them '13'.

MUAHAHAHAHAHA
